Philosophy of Care:

I help patients with the painful emotions and patterns that have become problematic in their life. Many see their difficulties as emerging from brain chemistry and neural networks. For some, difficulties stem from patterns of thinking and behavior that are getting in the way of flourishing. Others see emotional problems as natural responses to frightening or overwhelming experiences while growing up. While people seek help for all different reasons, often there is a deep underlying distress.

I see alleviating this suffering as a profound responsibility. My background in medicine combined with my training in specialized psychotherapies allows me to draw on the widest range of approaches, tailored to each patient’s unique context. I hope to work in a collaborative relationship to develop self-awareness, sense of purpose, and well-being to lead a meaningful, fulfilling life.

Introductory Phone Call

If you would like to explore becoming a patient, we would begin with an introductory phone call. We would briefly discuss your needs and determine if we should proceed with an in-office consultation.

Initial Consultation and Comprehensive Evaluation

We would begin with an initial consultation to outline your concerns and for you to get to know me. Typically, this is a series of 3 in-person sessions. We would discuss what brings you to the appointment and also review previous treatments, medical conditions, family background, and your personal developmental and cultural context.

Between sessions, it may help if I speak to other clinicians, and family members, or review school, work, or medical records. If we decide to work together, we can determine what would be the most appropriate next steps for treatment. If needed, I can arrange referrals to specialists, treatment programs, or other resources.

My practice style combines various approaches, with a focus on psychodynamic psychotherapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and, if needed, psychopharmacology (medication management). Sessions are typically weekly, but can be more or less frequent.

Fees and Insurance

Currently, I do not accept insurance. This prevents limitations on care from insurance companies, protects privacy, and allows me to dedicate my time to patients. At your request, I can provide a superbill (itemized invoice) that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Please check with your insurance company to clarify out-of-network benefits.

All services are by appointment only. I offer same-day appointments, with limited availability.
